Wussy (Trio) August 09, 2019 Ace of Cups Columbus, Ohio

Next to old friends, the thing I miss most about Ohio after moving to Florida in 2016, is the inability to see Wussy several time a year. Occasionally I get to vicariously attend a show as other fans recount their experiences on Facebook or otherwise. I was fortunate enough to recently become acquainted with Nick the sound guy at Ace of Cups through this blog. Seems we had attended some of the same shows back in the 80's. Anyway, through his generosity we can all enjoy this show.
This time out, the trio consisted of Cleaver, Walker-Hug and Messerly each playing their solo material and stripped down versions of Wussy (and Ass Ponys) tunes in a round-robin fashion, along with some great between song banter. Enjoy this one!

Tim Lee 3 June 13, 2015 Ace of Cups Columbus, Ohio

I've been anxiously awaiting the Columbus return of the Tim Lee 3 since their last visit, just over two years ago. With another stellar album under their belt, 2015's 33 1/3 (released on their "vinyl wedding anniversary" of 33 1/3 years), the trio delivered these new songs with old raucousness. Their unique blend of Americana is steeped in substance, incorporating elements of all that's good in music today. Tim and Susan's vocals are complementary whether alternating or in harmony, and Tim's guitar playing is masterful, which he makes look effortless. Chris Bratta's unassuming approach to banging out the beat effectively holds it all together. These are just good folks making really good music, and having fun at it.
This time, they brought along Kevin Abernathy, who gave us a great opening set and also joined Tim Lee 3 on stage to add a little extra zest to the end of their set.

Two Cow Garage May 15, 2015 Ace of Cups Columbus, Ohio

I went back and forth on attending this show, since they were in a support role for Tim Barry, who I hadn't heard of.  I had seen Micah solo at the Tree Bar, and caught Two Cow Garage's set at last year's Independents' Day Festival. Both were great, but the latter was a display of vivacious,  in-your-face rock and roll that I knew I wanted to experience again. This was my chance and I'm sure glad I made the choice I did. They were loud, fast and loose and really seemed to be having a good time- which I remembered them doing at the festival show. Another thing I noticed is they are really appreciative of their fans, which the fans enthusiastically reciprocated.
Living in the Columbus area for nearly thirty years now has given me the opportunity to see a lot of home-grown bands do their best to remain relevant. Two Cow Garage has made this an effortless exercise for the last fifteen years.

So, Wussy kicked off their tour in Columbus, playing a thirteen song set- six of which were from the soon to be released Attica. Actually, for the lucky fans who will see them live on this tour, Attica will be released on that night (CD available at the merch table). The new songs sounded great live; particulalry Lisa's "Teenage Wasteland" an ode to favorite The Who, and Chuck's "Rainbows and Butterflies". The highlight for me, and an instant Wussy classic was "Beautiful". "Strawberry" was also well represented, and classics "Funeral Dress" and "Yellow Cotton Dress" were sprinkled in for good measure. Seeing Wussy live continues to be an esoteric experience, that I can't wait to repeat over and over again. The best keeps getting better.
