X May 13, 2017 The Beacham Orlando, FL

What a fantastic show! For years I've wanted to see X, but something always "came up". Finally had the opportunity. My first show at The Beacham, which turned out to be a great venue to see this (or any) show. My attention was drawn to Billy Zoom, who sat stoically on a stool motionless, other than his hands, while delivering some of the most enthusiastic guitar licks I've heard. At times he was focused on a conversation with an audience member while effortlessly remitting some great guitar work. John Doe worked as hard as any bass player I've seen, and Exene spewed vocals as if the '80s were just yesterday. There were a hand full of tunes missing from the set, most notably for me "Johnny Hit and Run Paulene", but with a catalogue as vast as theirs, I wasn't going to hear all my favorites. The set drew exclusively from the original member's first four albums, omitting everything from their wonderful 1985 "Ain't Love Grand", and skipped over 1987's "See How We Are". 40 years is a long time to play music- very, very good music. Let's hope there is a 50 year anniversary tour that I will try my best to get to.
