The hundred or so folks that attended this show got a real treat! Six of the fifteen songs were new, presumably from the upcoming new release which they just finished up. Two of the new songs,  "Rainbows and Butterflies" and "Beautiful"
will become instant Wussy
classics. Don't get me wrong, the four remaining new songs were stellar as well, which heightens my anticipation of the new  release.

Some of the older songs seem to have a new feel to them as well. Particularly, "Yellow Cotton Dress" was delivered with an "expensive affects" makeover complete with a Harry Nilsson "Coconut" intro. Old standbys "Airborne" and "Rigor Mortis" rocked with their usual abandoned.

The band seemed to be having fun. I think the Beachland is a favorite spot of theirs. Mark put on his best game show host face revealing and handing out rock cards (similar to baseball cards) that he picked up before the show. It was a bit odd to see John stand up from the pedal steel and play guitar on at least one track.

I take full advantage of seeing Wussy live any chance I get. Each is a unique and special experience for me. I'm certainly glad I made the trip from Columbus for this one!

I certainly wish I could credit the fine folks that created the snazzy artwork. Ignore the gal having a conversation with my recorder during the first two minutes. No snow storm this year (for the first time in three years), but the roads were missing as the city is
revitalizing the Waterloo Arts District. Enough rambling, enjoy the content!

Special thanks to Terry Eaton
for these cool video of Happiness
Bleeds and Teenage Wasteland.

Let me start by saying this type of music is way out of my normal wheelhouse. When their first CD was released, I read something about it somewhere and thought they might be fun to see live. I took advantage of the opportunity when they played this small club in my hometown.
Dissapointed I was not. Combining equal parts aggressive rock and roll with sex (the show opened with a pre-recorded orgasm, presumably Taylor's) provided an interesting sight and sound experience. Much has been written about Taylor Momsen's actress turned rocker life, all by the age of 20.
What struck me odd about this show is that all the lighting came from stage rear, and the stage was constantly barraged with smoke. Between the two, it was difficult to get a good look at her or the band, perhaps by design.
The show was really good, the sound was great and the band was tight. Check these guys out live if you get a chance, and pick up their soon to be released CD "Going To Hell". Their two prior releases, "Light Me Up" and "Hit Me Like A Man" are pretty darn good too!

We owe a great big "Thank You" to Richard Buckner for backing out of his scheduled appearance this night. Instead, the roughly 40 folks in attendance were treated to an hour and a half of duo format Wussy songs and stories. In the intimate space that is The Tree Bar, one could hear most of the audience sing along to their favorite Ass Ponys/Wussy tunes. We were even treated to a couple new songs "that's some shit that's gonna be on the new record, I think" targeted for an early 2014 release. Lots of lighthearted banter between songs kept us in stitches most of the night as both Chuck and Lisa seemed to be having a good time and were in great spirits. BIG FUN was had by all. Look for our friends at Shake It to release more of the back catalog on vinyl over the coming months.

Thanks to Eric Warford for a couple of the pics and a nice big thank you to Bobby Sweet (he knows for what).

I all but forgot about these guys after their 1994 release "When I Woke", except when my kids would occasionally watch Matilda. No particular reason, I suppose, just didn't get any exposure to them. That recently changed with their 7th studio release "The Movement" when it came out last year. Although a bit more jammy than I normally like, their live set really captures the energy and incredible talent of the band. It was simply too hard to pass this free show on a beautiful summer evening.

Great set from the guys. They played several new songs from the next Rx release, and mentioned an upcoming second release (presumably with Aimee Mann). Banter is pretty calm for Ted, as he talks a lot about his history with the club and its owner. The Paul Stanley banter is rather humorous. All and all, a great evening of entertainment for a Monday night.

June Star did it again. A Stripped down version consisting of Andrew Gimm and Dave Hadley, touring behind their just released 8th studio effort, Kill The Lights, returned to the Tree Bar for another wonderful set. The guys mixed four tunes from the new release into a set containing several of my personal favorite "songs about love", that translated well to the duo format of the band. It's always a pleasant evening when these guys are in town and truly big fun! You really owe it to yourself to see them if they come anywhere near your hometown. Enjoy this one!

Check out their website here, and facebook page here. Check out and/or buy Kill The Lights here. On a side note, there are four different physical versions of the release, but they all contain the same material. Collect them all.
