Blue Highway June 5, 2015 Bicentennial Park Amphitheater Columbus, Ohio

The evening started out great with beautiful weather and a strong opening set for locals Strung Up. About 30 minutes into their set, Blue Mountain left the stage due to lightning. A torrential downpour followed which sent the entire audience scrambling for cover. Most simply left, and the show was over at that point.

1. intro
2. Pikeville Flood
3. Lonesome Pine
4. Marbletown
5. Keen Mountain Prison
6. instrumental

11. show stopped due to storm

See these guys live if you get the chance, and pick up some of their recorded output.

So, I went to this show knowing nothing about either band (the other being The Boxcars) except it was "good Bluegrass". Well that's an under statement! The caliber of musicians here is commensurate with the long list of credits and awards rattled off with their intro. A nearly perfect evening; wonderful music, a beautiful pavilion in downtown Columbus, spring-like weather at the end of June, friends, food and beer. This was chillin' at its best!

I all but forgot about these guys after their 1994 release "When I Woke", except when my kids would occasionally watch Matilda. No particular reason, I suppose, just didn't get any exposure to them. That recently changed with their 7th studio release "The Movement" when it came out last year. Although a bit more jammy than I normally like, their live set really captures the energy and incredible talent of the band. It was simply too hard to pass this free show on a beautiful summer evening.
