Warren Zevon February 17, 1990 Newport Music Hall Columbus, Ohio

Those familiar with Warren know that he had an obsession with boxing. Six days prior to this show, Buster Douglas, a Columbus native, knocked out the undisputed heavyweight champion, Mike Tyson, to earn the title. In an apparent nod of approval, Warren opened the show with an add-libbed tribute to Buster. The proud hometown crowd went wild, which set the tone for this awesome evening of rock and roll entertainment. Warren's dark sense of humor made for some of my favorite lyrics, and the two times I saw him live were an absolute blast. Sadly, his fear of doctors prevented a diagnosis of terminal asbestos exposure to which he succumbed in 2003.
